Kinesema Roadmap
Kinesema is being developed as a sequence of inspectable layers. Each layer should have a defined input, output, evidence boundary, review state, and public contract before the next layer depends on it.
The roadmap is directional rather than date-based. Later stages may change as the language evidence, implementation, accessibility findings, and community guidance become stronger.
Current Public and Private Work
The language parser is in private development. The website no longer accepts sentences or returns generated parser results. Work on language representations, vocabulary, tests, and review continues inside the lab.
The open-hand study is available to rotate and inspect in a browser. It is an exploratory visual form, not an approved sign, fingerspelling lesson, or parser-driven animation.
The public website explains our approach and selected research. It does not publish the private rule system, dictionaries, or internal review material.
Next: Strengthen the Language Boundary
The next research priority is not a more impressive animation. It is a stronger and more reviewable language layer.
Work in this stage may include:
- improving the evidence and tests behind natural-English analysis;
- separating implemented signals from experimental grammar hypotheses;
- recording why a language decision was made and what authority it relies on;
- defining which decisions require qualified linguistic or community review;
- designing a safe public contract for any later reviewed language fields; and
- keeping unsupported translation or sign output blocked.
A future language field should not enter the public interface merely because a model or parser can generate it. The private implementation, evidence, tests, review decision, and public response contract must agree first.
Then: Reviewable Intermediate Representations
Once the language boundary is strong enough, Kinesema can explore structured representations between sentence analysis and visible signing.
These may describe reviewed grammar decisions, references in signing space, non-manual requirements, uncertainty, sign-planning information, or motion dependencies. Their purpose is to make transformations inspectable—not to hide unfinished decisions behind a final-looking output.

Later: Motion and Presentation
Motion work belongs after the language and review boundaries it depends on. Later research may explore:
- hand pose and orientation;
- movement paths, direction, timing, and transitions;
- signing-space references;
- non-manual information;
- provenance from a reviewed language decision to a motion instruction; and
- tools for inspecting and correcting motion before presentation.
An avatar is a presentation layer, not proof that the language or movement is correct. The Motion Research Direction therefore remains explicitly experimental.
Human and Community Review
Technical tests cannot decide every linguistic, cultural, naturalness, or
accessibility question. Relevant work should continue to show
review_required until the exact material has received the appropriate human
judgment.
The Proposed Community Review Process is not active yet. Establishing a real process would require separately scoped review material, informed participation, contributor care, recorded outcomes, and an honest account of what each review does and does not establish.
Conditions for Public Expansion
Before Kinesema exposes a new capability publicly, the project should be able to answer:
- What exact behavior is implemented and tested?
- What evidence and authority support it?
- Which fields are safe and necessary for the browser?
- What remains private?
- What uncertainty or review state must visitors see?
- Has the interaction been checked for accessibility and narrow-screen use?
- Does the documentation match the deployed behavior?
If those questions cannot yet be answered, the capability remains research. Kinesema should expand through verified boundaries rather than through promises or visual polish alone.
